By Moyosore Ayo-Ogunyemi
Cal State San Marcos student Naeem Miller was honored at the 2026 NAACP Freedom Fund Gala on Oct. 17 for his outstanding commitment to social justice, youth empowerment and community leadership.
Miller, a junior pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, has served as vice president of the San Diego North County NAACP Youth Council and as a political action chair for the Youth Council. His advocacy includes voting rights, environmental justice, gun violence prevention and youth civic engagement. His work with Clean Earth 4 Kids and his participation in legislative advocacy at the California State Capitol further demonstrate his commitment to creating meaningful change.
Miller also amplifies youth voices, drives meaningful community engagement and his leadership embodies the highest ideals of service and advocacy.
“Naeem seemingly challenges narrow perceptions of what student leadership looks like and reminds us that our students are not simply preparing to become leaders after graduation; many are already leading and making a difference today,” said Kevane Coleman, emeritus board member of CSUSM’s Black Faculty and Staff Association.
