Veterans Have a New Home at CSUSM

Veterans Have a New Home at CSUSMVeterans, active duty military personnel and their dependents will now have a new home on campus. The new Veterans Center – the second to be opened in the 23 campus CSU system - will assist students as they transition from the battlefield to the classroom. “The Cal State San Marcos Veterans Center will be open to all students; however, there are currently about 600 identified active duty, veterans or dependents attending CSUSM,” states Victoria Hernandez, Veteran and Athletic Certification Coordinator.  “We know there are more veterans on the campus who do not self identify, so it is our hope that the Center will help get these students to become more engaged in activities geared towards veterans on the campus.”Not only will it be a place to gather, socialize, and exchange stories, the CSUSM Veterans Center will provide valuable resources, including offering assistance when applying for education benefits and academic advising.Veterans Center Dedication Event DetailsWHEN:      Noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13 WHERE:    Tukwut CourtyardWHO:       President Karen Haynes               Rear Admiral Herring, Commander               Navy Region SouthwestTroops to CollegeTroops to College is a statewide initiative among the Governor's Office, the U.S. military, the CSU system, University of California and community colleges to enhance opportunities for active-duty military and veterans to attend college in California.
