CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care Rolls out Its New Name

The CSU Shiley Institute for Palliative Care (formerly the CSU Institute for Palliative Care) has officially transitioned to its new name and introduced a new logo that reflects this milestone.

Earlier this summer, CSUSM announced that the Institute’s name would be changing in recognition of generous gifts received from philanthropist Darlene Marcos Shiley. Shiley has been an incredible champion of palliative care and an invaluable supporter of CSUSM and the Institute for several years. (Read more about Shiley’s contributions here.)

Multiple tasks involved in the name change are now complete, and more will be continuing over the next several weeks, including new signs near the Institute’s office at 109 Commons on the CSUSM campus.

Since 2012, the Institute has been charged with positively impacting the critical shortage of nurses, physicians, social workers and spiritual-care providers trained in palliative care, using a groundbreaking online educational model that emphasizes a whole-person, patient-centered approach aimed at improving quality of life for people with serious or life-limiting illness.
