Musician to Share Supreme Court Experience in Arts & Lectures Webinar

Noted author, musician and activist Simon Tam will be the featured speaker for an Arts and Lectures webinar titled “Slanted: How an Asian American Troublemaker Took on the Supreme Court.”

The free Zoom webinar is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 28. RSVP online to reserve your spot.

Tam is best known as the founder and bassist of The Slants, the world’s first and only all-Asian American dance rock band.

Tam named his band The Slants to "reclaim" and "take ownership" of Asian stereotypes. But when he applied to register a trademark on the band’s name, he had to fight all the way to the Supreme Court. He eventually won a unanimous victory in the landmark case Matal v. Tam, helping to expand civil liberties for minorities.

Tam also leads The Slants Foundation, a nonprofit that supports arts and activism projects for underrepresented communities.
