University Celebrates Women's Herstory Month

March is Women’s Herstory Month, a national observation of the valuable contributions women make to our culture and society. Cal State San Marcos has scheduled a month of programs to showcase the accomplishments of women in history and provide opportunities for students to discuss their experiences with womanhood and identity.  

 

Women Herstory Month Kickoff  

March 2, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., USU 3200, 3300, 3400 

The Women and Gender Equity Center is hosting a kickoff in honor of Women’s Herstory Month. Bring a woman who means a lot to you: a friend, a loved one, and highlight women on campus who are making a difference. 

 

Women’s Leadership Symposium  

March 4, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., USU Ballroom

Mariposa: Exploring Womanhood  

March 7, 1-2:30 p.m., USU 3200  

Butterflies symbolize hope, transformation and new beginnings. Womanhood can be a complex topic, and everyone’s experiences and relation with it are different. Come join the Women and Gender Equity Center in decorating tote bags to express yourself and your identity. Discuss your experiences and struggles with womanhood over chai lattes.  

  

International Women’s Day Paint & Sip  

March 8, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., USU 3200  

In collaboration with the Latinx Center, join us for a discussion on International Women’s Day while enjoying Paint & Sip.  

 

Embrace Equity in STEM 

March 8, 5-7 p.m., USU Ballroom 

 Join the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in celebrating International Women's Day.

Steminist Voices  

March 15, 2-3 p.m., USU 3200  

A revival of last year’s “TheirStory Matters: STEMinist Voices" event in honor of Women’s History Month, this spring’s program will bring a sense of community and belonging to first- and second-year students who identify as women, transgender and nonbinary who need role models. CSUSM alumni and faculty will speak on their experiences pre- and post-grad. Students will also be introduced to female-led STEM student organizations to provide additional resources and involvement opportunities. Food and refreshments will be provided. 

 

Feminist Festival   

March 16, 5-7 p.m., USU Ballroom 

In collaboration with Tukwut Life and the Women and Gender Equity Center, join us in celebrating Women's Herstory Month with our annual Feminist Festival. We will celebrate through music, food and performances focusing on building a collective feminist community.
