CSUSM Honored for Environmental Justice Internship Program
By Eric Breier
Cal State San Marcos received a best practice award for Social Equity and Justice at the 16th annual California Higher Education Sustainability Conference on July 9 at UC Santa Barbara.
The project was a collaboration between CSUSM’s sustainability program, under the guidance of Juliana Goodlaw-Morris, and the Office of Inclusive Excellence, under the guidance of Ariel Stevenson.
CSUSM was recognized for its creation of an environmental justice internship program, which began in fall 2018. Goodlaw-Morris noted that the collaboration is the next step in developing a comprehensive inclusive sustainability effort at CSUSM.
The California Higher Education Sustainability Conference is held annually to highlight research and case studies with "proven successes in curriculum development, operational programs and community partnerships."
CSUSM ranks first in the state by RegisteredNursing.org in its list of 2019 Best Online RN to BSN programs. There were 15 schools that met the website's criteria to be ranked. The university also ranks ninth in the fourth annual nursing school rankings by the website RNCareers.org, which ranked the top 35 universities in the state.
Two honored at Women of Impact Celebration
Mary Baker, a CSUSM nursing lecturer, and Arcela Núñez-Alvarez, research director of the National Latino Research Center, were among 10 women honored by State Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner Horvath for their contributions to the community at the inaugural 76-AD Women of Impact Celebration in April.
Eight members of the campus community were honored as 2018-19 Civility Champions in April: Melissa Abeyta, Elvira Dominguez-Gomez, William Felty, Abráhan Monzón, Eduardo Negron, Shannon Nolan-Arañez, Kathrine Rolison and Paola Romo.
